One of the nutritional problems that occurs in early adulthood is obesity. There is an increase in the percentage of obesity from 21.8% in 2018 to 23.4% in 2023. This increase occurs due to lifestyle changes such as food consumption patterns and physical activity in early adulthood. Consumption of fast food and ultra-processed food accompanied by long-term sedentary behavior is associated with an increase in body mass index and the risk of non-communicable diseases. This study aims to analyze the relationship between UPF food intake and sedentary lifestyle with nutritional status in early adulthood. This study is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional approach conducted on students of UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya with a sample of 201 respondents aged 18-23 years. Data collection using a questionnaire on UPF food intake, sedentary behavior, and nutritional status by measuring body mass index. Bivariate analysis was used to determine the relationship between ultra-processed food intake, sedentary lifestyle, and nutritional status in early adulthood using the Spearman test with a 95% confidence level of sig. 0.05. The results of the study on the relationship between UPF food intake and nutritional status showed a significance value of 0.916 (p > 0.05). This indicates that there is no significant relationship between UPF food intake and nutritional status in early adulthood. Meanwhile, the analysis of the relationship between sedentary behavior and nutritional status showed a significance value of 0.019 (p < 0.05). These results indicate a significant relationship between sedentary behavior and nutritional status. Although the results show no relationship between UPF intake and nutritional status, dietary consumption patterns and physical activity must still be considered to prevent obesity, which can increase the risk of non-communicable diseases.
