PERAN FLUOXETINE DALAM PENGOBATAN PASIEN DEPRESI

Abstract

Depression is a condition that affects mood and can disrupt a person's emotional, social, and cognitive functioning, so it needs to be treated with the right medication. Fluoxetine is an antidepressant in the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) class that is widely used due to its effectiveness and better safety profile compared to previous generations of antidepressants. This study aims to examine the impact, effectiveness, mode of action, and side effects of fluoxetine, while emphasizing the importance of the role of nurses in monitoring therapy in depressed patients. The research methodology uses a literature review with a scoping review approach, by searching for articles from national and international sources in Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect, published between 2015 and 2025. Of all the articles found, 7 articles were selected as final articles for further in-depth analysis regarding the use of fluoxetine. The study results revealed that fluoxetine provides good results in reducing depressive symptoms, improving mood stability, and providing additional benefits for several other psychiatric disorders. However, side effects can occur such as difficulty sleeping, nausea, anxiety, sexual disorders, as well as the potential for serotonin syndrome and activation of mania. Fluoxetine's long half-life also means that side effects can persist and require intensive monitoring. In short, fluoxetine is an effective and relatively safe therapy for depression, but it requires consistent monitoring, appropriate education, and active nurse involvement to ensure its safety and effectiveness.
